Most desirable Holiday Destination
With millions of tourists coming every year Bali is a very popular destination among worldwide visitors.
Bali yesterday, today, and tomorrow
Inspired by the past we look at a vibrant and culture-rich community that will benefit from future tourism developments.
Early tourism
Tourism in Bali starts in the early 1920s with Kuta and Singaraja as popular destinations amongst Dutch visitors.
Basic infrastructure
Only a simple loop road linking Denpasar, Tabanan, Singaraja and Gyanar was available for a long time.
Airport upgrade
The upgrade of Tuban airport to accommodate international flights in the 1960s helped boost tourist numbers.
An inviting scene
Rich culture, friendly locals and natural beauty became increasingly popular from the 1970s onward.
Surf culture
The 70s also saw the arrival of American and Australian surfers and the discovery of Uluwatu surf breaks.
Uluwatu, dry and isolated
For a long time, Uluwatu was isolated and associated with unfertile and harsh land by locals because of its lack of fresh water.
Infrastructure upgrades
The last 15 years saw major upgrades done to roads and the arrival of town water in most of Uluwatu reducing the need to bring water in by trucks.
Uluwatu now
Uluwatu is developing fast, with many tourists visiting the now easily accessible white sandy beaches, and bigger businesses are moving into the area with a bright future on the horizon.
The next hot spot
The last 12 years saw Canggu as the place to buy property in Bali often returning investments within 5 years. However, over-development and the rapid rise of costs in that area is pushing investors to look elsewhere with Uluwatu now in their sight. For us, there is no doubt that Uluwatu is the next big thing.
Popular with tourists and expats
6 mln tourist yearly
2019 was a big year for Bali, welcoming over 6.3 million visitors. Bali airport has recently recorded over 1,000,000 passengers a month and is well on track to hit pre-pandemic numbers
Expat hub
Many expats have made Uluwatu their home, joined by a great number of digital nomads looking at quieter areas but still offering a bustling social life
The move to Uluwatu
Businesses, cafes and restaurants have now started to move and open extra shops in Uluwatu to cater to the growing numbers frequenting the area
Kindness & Culture
From the early beginning of tourism, Balinese people have shown kindness and friendliness towards visitors. It is home to some of the most tolerant populations, with a strong tie to their culture. In the tourist area of Bali, most speak English making it very easy for visitors to travel around.
The good life
Uluwatu is the location of perfect white sandy beaches and a growing social scene. Enjoy a luxury lifestyle at an affordable price.
Surf paradise
World-class surfing since the 70s with surfers from around the world regularly coming to Uluwatu to catch the perfect wave. Now home to many surf brands and regular international surf competitions.
